ASIPI: Science Serving the Public Good
* establish a group that serves the public interest rather than the interest of individuals, corporations, and professional societies;
* provide fora for expressing ideas, discussing policy and applications of basic research, expanding the boundaries regarding how science in the public interest is conducted;
* define and elaborate on issues such as peer review, conflict of interest, publishing research in a peer-reviewed science journal;
* create a culture with the infrastructure to support and create opportunities in the area of public interest work;
* influence the practice of science at federal levels and engage in policy discussions and debates to enhance the quality of scientific work conducted for the public, with public funds, and in the public interest.
* train and recruit scientists, especially students;
* offer scientists the practical means of conducting public interest work.
