Association for Science in the Public Interest:
In November 1998 scientists from all walks of life gathered in Woods Hole Mass. to explore the possibilities of a professional society that would support science that served the public interest rather than promoting the norms of specific disciplines. Their vision for the new society was to bring together those who used science to protect public health and the environment and wanted to make common cause with others in a multidisciplinary, supportive group.
The new association plans to have a journal, in addition to regular meetings. Dr. Peter deFur, was elected as the acting President. The Science and Environmental Health Network is the host organization for ASIPI.
